Families First

Families First, a part of FIRST, is a free information session on the basics of early intervention in Philadelphia. Families First provides information about how the Parent’s Movement helped establish Early Intervention legislation and how families can continue in this tradition by working together with professionals for the benefit of their child. At a Families First session you will meet with other families who have children receiving services. Families First gives direction on how to be an effective member of your child’s Individual Education Plan (IEP) or Individual Family Support Plan (IFSP) team, and how to create and share a vision for your child. The curriculum was developed in collaboration with experts in the content area and parents served by Early Intervention. Families First is conducted by families of children who are in or have been in Early Intervention. Families First is a program designed for families.

Topics include:
 How Laws Define Early Intervention Services
 Best Practices in Early Intervention - Are We Getting the Best for Our Children?
 Future Plans - Creating a Vision for Your Child Solution Circle - Opportunity for parents to seek insight on a specific concern from experienced trainers and parents
 Assistive Technology
